Ferryhill Town Council Teams Up with College to Boost Young Talent

Ferryhill Town Council and East Durham College Join Forces

A town council in County Durham has taken a proactive step by partnering with a local college to assist a young individual on their path to employment. Ferryhill Town Council is collaborating with East Durham College to provide a work placement for 19-year-old Leon Taylor, who is enrolled in the college’s Supported Internship Programme.

Excitement in the Air

Leon will dedicate two afternoons each week to working in the council’s outdoor areas, which include Duncombe Cemetery and Dean Bank Park. Expressing his enthusiasm, he said, "I’m really excited to start my placement with Ferryhill Town Council. I really want to work, and this is a great chance for me to learn new skills, gain experience in the workplace and build my confidence. I’m looking forward to working with the team and getting involved in different projects."

A Collaborative Spirit

Leon’s job coach, Angela Aitchison, couldn’t be happier with the council’s involvement. She noted, "We are absolutely thrilled that Ferryhill Town Council is partnering with us to support our Supported Internship Programme. By offering Leon this placement, they are not just providing him with the opportunity to learn in a real workplace, but are also demonstrating a commendable commitment to inclusion and creating opportunities for young people with additional needs. These experiences can change lives, and with Leon’s enthusiasm and determination, I am confident this will be a positive journey for both him and the Town Council."

According to Leeanne Owens, the town clerk for Ferryhill Town Council, "Leon is a very enthusiastic young man, and the Town Council is looking forward to having him on board.
